After reading this article, please read Timothy Egan’s seering “Fire in the Heartland: the Ku Klux Klan’s plot to take over America, and the Woman who stopped them.” It’s the tale of America’s home grown Nazi-ism in the 1920s-50s that was grounded in our history of slavery, the common deeply-held belief in white supremacy, and the longing for & support of a strong man/dictator who promises to ensure white privilege against the tide of All Others — from all POC to anyone with a non-protestant religion.
