This has not been a good year for progressive causes in Tennessee.
Case in point: After Nashville passed a ground-breaking city ordinance that barred its contractors from discriminating against workers on the basis of sexual orientation, the Tea Party-led state legislature VETOED the city's efforts.
But it gets worse. Not only did the General Assembly pass a bill to strip Nashville of its ability to protect GLBT workers, but the legislation was so extreme that it wiped out entire classes from equal protection laws in cities across the state.
This made me angry. So I wrote a column in the state's largest paper, The Tennessean, about the issue and the need for tolerance.
I hope to do this more often. But I need Kossacks' help to get that chance.
