From Jonathan Turley:
I recently wrote about the dangerous calls to treat protesters as “domestic terrorists.” Most these calls focused on the neo-Nazis but the recent move by German authorities against Antifa shows that groups on the left can also be targeted by such actions. The Antifa website has been barred due to the violent role played by their members at the G20 summit in Hamburg. The Interior Ministry accused Antifa of seeking to “legitimize violence against police officers. which he described as an “expression of an attitude that tramples human dignity.”
He’s an attorney, and an economist as well I believe.
First, let me say that Antifa in Germany is not Antifa here. And we really have no idea how many agent provocateurs infiltrated the group here, and from where or funded by whom. One would be wise to assume nothing, except that such actors do exist. I think firmness and dedication can avoid violence which must only be used as a last resort and in defense of your own person or that of another. Like Adorno, I am not too keen on “actionism.” But I understand its intent and generally pure motives.
If you read Turley’s take on the other story he refers to “I recently wrote about the dangerous calls to treat protesters as “domestic terrorists.”
He compares those calling for hate and intolerance to be considered as free, constitutionally protected speech true Americans and compares those calling for hate and intolerant speech to lose this protection to Robespierre and The Terror. If Canada brings back the Guillotine anytime soon, then I’d worry. Suffice it to say Prof. Turley and I are not in agreement on this point.
